What kind of cake should I have for my birthday?
Chocolate with vanilla ice cream and strawberries

Lets think a little outside the box here. Why limit yourself to cake? Isnt that a little simple minded? Look here, you could have so many different kinds of desert. Unless you actually like a plain old chocolate cake more than a steaming hot apple pie...? I wonder why cake goes with birthdays, is it because the candles are supported better by the structure of cake than any other desert? I think you should get whatever you want on your birthday, otherwise its not a wonderful, special day, it just marks one more year closer to your funeral procession's traffic jam.

I actually like cheesecake. Derrick can mail half of it over here if you dont like it.

The problem is that I have had cheesecake for about seven out of seventeen birthdays before, and ice cream for most of the rest. I can always count on two of my brothers to have cheesecake, one or both of my sisters to have ice cream cake, and my other brother to have angel food ice cream cake. So for me, a "plain old" chocolate cake would be a novelty. So that's what I'm going with for this birthday. If I don't like it...hey! I've got another year at home and probably another couple quarter-centuries in the world.

By the way, who is "HH"? I apologize if I just can't remember which of my dear friends has those initials, but the only people I can think of who do have them are Hilary Hahn, Herbert Hoover, Hubert Humphrey and Heinrich Himmler, none of whom I know.

I would choose the chocolate cake with the strawberries and ice-cream. Sounds good to me!

Chocolate! I made the cake with a recipe from a magazine and TRIED to make the "Salsa al cioccolato" you sent, Karena, but, alas, I saw "plain chocolate" and thought "baking chocolate." We tried adding sugar, but it didn't work. We ended up using frosting from a can we had on hand, which was perfectly fine. The cake was delicious and the vanilla ice cream and strawberries were the perfect complement.
